- Clouds: Make sure you keep your clouds separate; work files on work clouds, personal files on personal clouds, etc. Keep short-term note docs in each cloud.
- The desktop: Good for temporary files, best kept minimal.
- Desktop spaces: Dragging important windows to new desktop spaces helps you focus and maintain high data quality.
- Disable most notifications: Distraction is a serious issue that affects your ability to work diligently and socialise as well as possible. Make your life easier by disabling all notifications except for the few that are most relevant (e.g. important email account(s), your preferred podcast app, etc). Don’t allow notifications for more than one app per category (e.g. one news app, one podcast app, etc). Less notifications mean you can better pay attention to things in real life.
- Download folders: Move files to other folders. Keep your Downloads folder(s) clean.
- Spending time going in circles: Errors can make technical projects take ages, sometimes with no progress achieved at the end. If you work on a technical/coding project, perhaps have a cut-off time of a certain time (e.g. 10 minutes). If you continue to run into the same brick wall for the chosen amount of time, give it a break and move on to another less tedious activity.
- Passwords & notes: Keep them in as few places as possible. One secure place is preferable. Third-party password managers such as NordPass mean all your passwords are saved on the cloud and accessible on any device you happen to use.
- Just do it: Many tasks are best learnt by being willing to do something you haven’t tried before.
